Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which has made great contribution to the business world with its added-value on Bursa economy, established also a new clustering platform with the contributions of the Bursa Technology Coordination and R&D Centre (BUTEKOM) with the participation of BTSO and Uludağ University.
 
BTSO has completed the establishment process of the Sustainable Home Textile Cluster (SETEK) in Bursa which is one of the locomotive cities of home textile sector in Turkey. The application of SETEK was also deemed successful by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology within the scope of the 'Cluster Support Program'.
 
THE FIRST AND UNIQUE CLUSTER IN HOME TEXTILE SECTOR

SETEK will take the benefits of the financial support of the Ministry when the negotiation process would be completed after the application. Also, SETEK has the first and unique cluster that was included in the negotiation process on textile sector within the scope of the financial support program. 43 companies in home textile industry will be members of SETEK. The cluster has representatives of academicians, public institutions and non-governmental organizations as well as representatives of business world.
 
“UNION MAKES STRENGTH “

The Cluster of Sustainable Home Textile conducted its first meeting at BTSO Altıparmak Service Building. Representatives of companies which are members of cluster attended the meeting with the participation of Mr. İsmail Kus; Vice President of BTSO, Prof. Yusuf Ulcay; Rector of Uludağ University, Mr. Osman Nuri Canik; Vice President of Uludağ Textile Exporters Union.
 
Taking the floor at the meeting, Ismail Kuş said that they have added a culture of common action to the Bursa business world with their cluster activities. Reminding that they have established clusters of Space, Aerospace and Defence, Rail Systems, Baby and Children's Clothing, Wind Turbines, Mr. İsmail Kuş stated that the cluster projects they have prepared in the home textile sector can be seen successful. Mr. İsmail Kuş said "There are about 300 companies in total within the scope of our five cluster projects. Union makes strength. I hope our companies will reach stronger positions with the clustering activities.
 
“WE WILL CONTINUE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE CITY ECONOMY”

Prof. Doc. Yusuf Ulcay said that clusters, and associations have great importance to increase the productivity and to increase competitiveness of Turkish industry. Expressing that they have added a new one to its projects carried out by the 3rd Generation University vision, Mr. Ulcay said “We presented very important project to serve our home textile industry representatives in the process of transition from science to production and from production to economy. I wish this Cluster of Sustainable Home Textile will be fruitful for all our companies, our city and our country. As Uludag University, we will continue to increase our support for urban economy and development in future.”
 
Mr. Osman Nuri Canik; Vice President of UTİB, also gave information about the activities they planned to make with the cluster member companies.
 
CLUSTERING CREATE COMPETITIVENESS
Clusters that formed through inter-institutional trust and cooperation, contribute to the performance of companies by facilitating networks and partnerships based on collaborative work relations between companies. The works carried out by the cooperation of local suppliers, customers, universities and research centres have raised cluster members and the sector to a stronger position in the international scene. Within the scope of the cluster, the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology provides their support for the development of the labour market, common testing laboratories, and new production and technology development.
